Question:

Why am I getting an access denied when trying to upload my access database?

Answer:

When Access databases are in use, they are locked by Windows.  In order to replace the database, you have to unlock the database.  Unlocking the database can be done by sending a bad query to it.

If your database is using an ODBC DSN, you can enter that DSN into the form on the page below to break the lock on your database.  After breaking the lock, you will receive an error message; this is normal.

Please select the form to use based upon the server that your site is hosted on.  If you are unsure which server your site is hosted on, please login to Helm and view the "Advanced Settings" for your domain.

If this method does not unlock your database - or you are not using a DSN, we recommend simply uploading your new database with a different file name and re-pointing your DSN / connection string to the new database.
